DEFINING THE PROBLEM Many Septic Tank (Black waste) and Gray waste odor control and bacterial accelerator products use enzymes or blends of products that allow the bacteria to utilize some of the oxygen that is bound to molecules in the existing waste. The enzyme products are slow acting and do not PROVIDE sufficient oxygen for long term creation of the DESIRABLE Aerobic condition in the bio mass. The enzyme products work as designed, but they do not really fix the problems.
The portable Septic holding tank ODOR treatment products in general have been designed to kill all the bacteria that recycle the waste and mask the existing sulfide odors with perfume. Most blue products are strong BIOCIDES that kill the bacteria and require special handling for disposal.
Some of the newer products use Calcium Nitrate to provide Oxygen to the bacteria. Calcium Nitrate products do provide Oxygen to the waste Bio Mass, however the amount of Calcium Nitrate required is large and Calcium Nitrate does not have the ability to provide a longer term release of Oxygen nor the added Nutrients necessary for the full Aerobic condition.
Normal Waste is about 40% bacteria by volume. Adding bacterial is not cost effective or a working solution to the problem.

Septic=Anaerobic
Anaerobic is the Bacterial condition or bacterial action without air or a plentiful oxygen source
Aerobic and Anaerobic bacteria are the same organisms. If sufficient Oxygen is NOT available (The Anaerobic condition), the bacteria must obtain oxygen by creating enzymes that allow molecules with oxygen to be used as a source of oxygen. In the Anaerobic condition, the bacteria produce foul and dangerous Hydrogen Sulfide gas (H2S) and sulfides. H2S gas in strong concentration (over 10 PPM) is poisonous to humans and animals.
If sufficient oxygen or air is available, (the Aerobic condition), the bacteria use the oxygen directly and do not have to produce enzymes and tear oxygen away from other compounds or molecules. Aerobic bacteria do not produce H2S.
The ability to change conditions, is defined as facultative bacteria. Facultative bacteria is the predominate bacteria in most human and animal waste.

OUR NEW TECHNOLOGY New Technology Odor Control/font>
The bio stimulants developed by Paul Alfrey (Now The Ecology Company) were originally inspired by the terrible odors associated with the marine toilets (Heads) on a sailboat.
BioOdorStop contains large quantities of fast and slow release oxygen and nutrients that rapidly neutralize the existing sulfide odors and create the AEROBIC CONDITION in the bacteria that produce odorless CO2, NOT SULFIDES. BioOdorStop has a time release capability that retains the Aerobic odor free condition for an extended time.
The waste is decomposed naturally and the resultant waste product is not hazardous and is a great liquid fertilizer for landscaping.
This is NATURE'S natural process for recycling waste.
The Aerobic condition provides the following Benefits:

Why you cannot find BioOdorStop at the local store
The market for a solution to the portable sanitation system problems turned out to be a more difficult market to penetrate than the industrial markets and as a results, little effort has been expended to introduce the wonders of our bio stimulants to the portable sanitation system market here in the USA. We are now taking the action to provide the BioOdorStop to the various outlets that will make the product accessible. Marine and RV sales are doing very well in Australia and New Zealand.
Other products that can Create the Aerobic Condition
Many Enzyme products and several (Calcium Nitrate)are available in either a granular or liquid form. based calcium nitrate product that supplies oxygen to the bio mass. The calcium nitrate provides some instant odor control and will supply the oxygen to create the aerobic condition IF DOSED HEAVENLY.
BioOdorStop is at least four times more effective than Calcium Nitrate at eliminating odors and last much longer. The odor elimination expectancy is a function of the usage and the bio mass parameters.
Calcium nitrate sells in the granular form for about $35.00, for twenty five pounds or about $1.40 per pound on Amazon. The calcium nitrate sold for portable sanitation systems sells for up to $40.00 a pound.
BioOdorStop is a blend of all the nutrients that facultative (The bacteria normally found in waste) require to become Aerobic and eliminate the production of odors, as well as digest the waste and destroy the pathogens. Think of BioOdorStop as a long lasting vitamin for bacteria.
The use of a Bio Stimulant to control odors operates totally different from the normal blue colored Biocides found in most portable toilet products. BioOdorStop will not function when mixed with a biocide.
The New Composing portable system
These system could be made more efficient and easier to maintain by replacing the aeration mechanism with a simple dosing pump that operates only for each flush and a supply of BioOdorStop.
INSTRUCTIONS AND SUGGESTED DOSAGEWe recommend that you use about ONE OUNCE of undiluted BioOdorStop per TWENTY GALLONS of holding tank. The BioOdorStop may be added to any sink or toilet (Head) that uses the holding tank. The dosage must be repeated when the H2S odors return. The dosage may be increased to extend the time between dosage. The dosage of One Ounce per twenty gallons is suggested for systems that are used by one or two persons and normally retains the odor free status for about seven to fourteen days. GRAY WATER tanks should be treated with about ONE OUNCE per FORTY to SIXTY GALLONS of tank size. The dosage must be repeated when the H2S odors return. In normal use, the necessary dosage will be determined by the production of H2S smell. No SMELL is the norm. H2S smell indicates the need for additional dosage. Adjust the dosage for your application. Or you may elect to over dose so as to increase to period between dosing. For example, for portable toilets that are serviced on a regular schedule, set the dosage to retain the odor free status for the full time between servicing. It is very important to remove existing BIOCIDES from the system and do not mix ANY BIOCIDE with the BioOdorStop.

THE PERFECT MARINE - RV HEADThe ideal sewage collection device would allow the creation of the Aerobic condition in the waste at the time of collection. The Raritan Crown head has the capability to be the ideal waste collection device. The Crown marine head has a built in injection system and product tank that allows a small dose of BioOdorStop or other products be injected at each and every flush. This system is simple and solves all the sewage problems when used correctly. The Raritan Crown is designed for the large boats and generally too large and requires a DC voltage and will not fit many of the smaller boats. Soon, the manufactures will discover the need for a head that will inject a Bio Stimulant for manually operated heads. |
Portable toilets | ||
|
Portable toilets operate the same as a black water holding tank on a boat with the exception that the usage may far exceed the usage of a small boat Marine system. The dosage of the portable toilet is a function of the usage and the time between pump out and restart of the use cycle.
Portable toilet companies have found that spraying the interior of portable toilet house with BioOdorStop diluted with three parts of water to one part of BioOdorStop will help to keep the unit free from odors from "SPILLS". |
Pump out (Vacuum) Trucks have odor problem, big time!
Many Pump out truck operators place a filter on the discharge of the Vacuum pump. The filter is a small chamber that supports a BRILLO type nylon pad. A small spray is mounted to wet the filter element with diluted BioOdorStop (diluted about three parts water to one part BioOdorStop). Set the spray to operate at the same time that the vacuum pump is operating. The system should be mounted to not allow drainage of product back into the vacuum pump when not in operation. The oxygen in the BioOdorStop will corrode bare metal other than stainless. PVC is very corrosion resistant, as is stainless.
The operator of a portable toilet company must track the usage a time between pump out cycles and determine the dosage requirements for each application. A good starting dosage is one to two ounces of BioOdorStop per twenty gallons of the holding tank size.

Big Boat Sewage Systems
|
One of the loudest criticisms of the big ship industry stems from its sometimes casual treatment of sewage. While it's still legal to dump raw sewage and waste 12 miles offshore, new measures set for 2010 will make sure all ships have either a sewage holding tank that can be emptied once the ship comes into port or an onboard sewage treatment plant that will purify waste before it's dumped. At least one large company, Royal Caribbean, already boasts state-of-the-art wastewater treatment systems onboard its vessels. Other lines are balking at the new rules. Alaska's government approved five-year waivers for ships that currently don't have proper wastewater treatment facilities.
One Example of the Biological Sewage treatment plant used on big boats.
Biological sewage treatment plant uses bacteria's to facilitate the process of breaking down of solid constituents. It generates an oxygen rich atmosphere that aerobic bacteria utilizes to multiply and disintegrate the sewage waste to convert it into sludge. The treated sewage thus generated can be disposed off to any waters. The process that takes place inside the plant is known as aeration process.
The whole plant is divided into three compartments namely,

A Sample Big Boat System
Sewage enters the sewage treatment plant first through the aeration compartment. Aerobic bacteria digests the sewage waste and reduce it to small particles. A continuous supply of atmospheric oxygen is provided to increase the rate of digestion process. The disintegrated solid waste is then transferred to the settling compartment where the solid constituents settle down under the effect of gravity. The liquid at the top is then passed to the chlorine treatment compartment. In this compartment the liquid water is treated with chlorine and other chemicals to kill any surviving bacteria. Once done the water is then discharged into the sea. The process of chlorination is facilitated with the help of chlorine tablets. The sludge that settles down in the settling compartment is removed and stored in a storage tank to later discharge it to shore facilities or decontrolled areas.
These system could be made more efficient and easier to maintain by replacing the aeration oxygenator mechanism with a simple dosing pump and a supply of BioOdorStop. Read more: http://www.brighthub.com
